Banzuke reaction from Harumafuji
Dec.
25th - Fresh off of his sixth career yusho at the Kyushu basho, Yokozuna
Harumafuji sat down with reporters with the new banzuke in hand
celebrating his shift to the prestigious East Yokozuna slot. When asked
about his year 2013, his first full year as a Yokozuna in which he won
two yusho, he replied, "I learned a lot about myself mentally this
year." Isegahama-oyakata, who joined the press conference, added, "Even
at the basho where he doesn't yusho, he still needs to pick himself back
up and finish with 12 or 13 wins." When asked about his goal for the
upcoming year, Harumafuji quickly responded, "I want to achieve double
digit career yusho." The Yokozuna would need to hoist the cup four times
this year in order to reach yusho number ten. "If I set some goals for
myself, I'm sure I can work hard to achieve them." When asked about
rival Kisenosato who is gunning for the Yokozuna rank for the second
time in his career, Harumafuji responded, "I want him to do well, but
really all I can worry about is my own sumo." |
