Kirishima Eyes Most Wins and a Hometown Kyushu Yusho on 'Ii-na' Day
Ozeki Kirishima closed Kyushu prep on the 7th at Otowayama's Fukuoka quarters with basics only — no bouts. He leads the annual win race at 55, five ahead of Atamifuji, but stressed there is still one basho left and he wants to stay locked in.
November 7 is Kirishima City's municipal anniversary, marked as "Kirishima Ii-na Day" (11/7). The Mongolia-born ozeki serves as a city PR ambassador through the former ozeki Kirishima (Mutsu Oyakata) connection, alongside idols and Hiroshima pitcher Daichi Ohsera. "It's a hometown day. I want to wrestle sumo that makes fans think 'ii-na.'" He is aiming at the yearly win title and a first Kyushu yusho in three years.
