The Japan Sumo Association on the 7th listed the makushita-and-below rikishi absent from the start of Kyushu. Former maegashira Oshoumi (Naruto), who broke his fibula on Day 4 in Nagoya and sat out all of Aki, is out at West Makushita 42 and is expected to drop to sandanme for January unless he returns mid-basho.
Other makushita absentees include Tokunomusashi, former juryo Hakuyozan, Goseizan and Seifuji, with more than 20 others out across sandanme, jonidan and jonokuchi, per Nikkan Sports.
