Hoshoryu's Comeback Opens Against New Komusubi Churanoumi
At the Kyushu torikumi meeting on the 6th, yokozuna Hoshoryu — seeking a return after three straight absences — was paired with new komusubi Churanoumi on Day 1. Hoshoryu withdrew mid-Natsu and mid-Nagoya, then had right-knee surgery and sat out all of Aki for the first time from Day 1.
Yokozuna Onosato, chasing consecutive yusho, opens against komusubi Yoshinofuji when the basho begins November 8 at Fukuoka Kokusai Center.
