Fujinokawa Wraps Final Keiko Ahead of Kyushu Ozeki Push
Sekiwake Fujinokawa (Isenoumi) took his final practice session before the Kyushu basho on the 5th, visiting Sadogatake-beya in Higashi Ward, Fukuoka and taking 14 bouts against Ozeki Kotozakura, maegashira Kotoeiho and others. Using his low, sharp charge, he won nine, saying afterward, "That was my last practice. I was able to do it as usual."
He sat out the Tokitsukaze ichimon joint session on the 2nd with a fever but said he missed only that one day and recovered quickly. Coming off an 11-win Aki basho at sekiwake, he heads into Kyushu looking to firm up his footing toward ozeki promotion and said simply, "I'll do my best," planning to approach the year-ending tournament the same way he always does.
