Asanoyama: 'Finish Healthy' as Joi-Oroshi Return Opens vs Aonishiki
Former ozeki Asanoyama, East Maegashira 1 for Kyushu, gets the full joi-oroshi treatment right away: Ozeki Aonishiki on Day 1 and Yokozuna Hoshoryu on Day 2. Training lightly at Takasago-beya in Fukuoka with suriashi and shiko, he said simply that making opening day healthy means \"there's nothing left but to go all out.\"
Aonishiki is a first meeting — \"I've never even practiced with him. If I talk about it I'll start thinking about it, so I'll just do my own sumo.\" He is 0-5 against Hoshoryu and wants to stay calm and natural. After the 2024 Nagoya ACL tear that dropped him to sandanme, a kachi-koshi here puts sanyaku back in reach: \"The most important thing is finishing without injury. If I stick to my sumo, the results will follow.\"
