Hoshoryu Opens vs Churanoumi, Then Asanoyama — Both Series Unbeaten
The torikumi meeting on the 6th locked Yokozuna Hoshoryu's first two Kyushu bouts after three straight absences: new komusubi Churanoumi on Day 1 and East Maegashira 1 Asanoyama on Day 2. He is 6-0 all-time against Churanoumi and 5-0 against Asanoyama, so the early draw pairs him with tough but historically friendly matchups while he finds his feet post right-knee surgery.
Judging department head Asakayama Oyakata (former ozeki Kaio) said stacking wins would be \"medicine\" for the knee but added there are no excuses once he steps on the dohyo — he wants yokozuna-like sumo. Hoshoryu still has no yusho in 10 tournaments at the rank; both yokozuna competing is what Asakayama wants for a year-end basho that already has Onosato chasing back-to-back titles.
