Hoshoryu: "I Want to Compete" in Kyushu, Decision Expected Soon

Yokozuna Hoshoryu, who has missed three straight tournaments, said "I want to compete" after practice at Takekuma stable on the 4th. "Practice is going well, and my body is moving well." He will discuss it with his stablemaster, Tatsunami Oyakata (former komusubi Asahiyutaka), and Kyodo reports a decision could come as soon as the 5th.

He went 13-2 in 15 bouts, 6-1 against Asanoyama and 7-1 against Gonoyama, showing no sign of trouble from the right knee he had operated on in late July, which he still wears a supporter on. He sat out the entire Aki basho for the first time, and Kyodo notes that another poor showing could raise questions about his future.
