New Juryo rikishi announced

Nov. 27th - The Banzuke Reorganization Committee convened this morning in Fukuoka to rework the rankings for the Hatsu 2014 basho in January, and as is customary during the procedure, rikishi who will be promoted or re-promoted to the Juryo ranks were announced early in order to give the stables sufficient time to prepare for the rikishi's transition to sekitori status. Headlining today's announcement is the lone first-timer to Juryo, Sakigake, a 27 year-old Mongolian who fights from the Shibatayama-beya under the direction of former Yokozuna, Onokuni. Sakigake is the third slowest foreign-born rikishi to reach the Juryo ranks requiring 63 basho. He is the second sekitori produced by Shibatayama-oyakata and the first one to hail from the stable in 5 1/2 years.

Joining Sakigake in the division and making their return to Juryo will be Arawashi, a 27 year-old Mongolian from the Minesaki-beya; Sumotalk favorite, Takanoyama, a 30 year-old rikishi from the Czech Republic who fights from the Naruto-beya; Sadanoumi, a 26 year-old from the Sakaigawa-beya who makes his return for the first time in two years; and Tochihryu, a 26 year-old from the Kasugano-beya who makes his first visit in three years. The Hatsu basho runs January 12 thru January 26th.
